We are delighted to announce that the Washington Humane Society's 23nd Annual 'Bark Ball' on Saturday, June 5th will be a special  'Grand Finale' evening event for this historic week!

Throughout the week humane organizations, shelters, rescue groups, educational agencies and non-profit organizations across the area will be hosting wonderful animal-related special events.  Educators, students, businesses and caring citizens throughout the District and across the entire Washington, DC metropolitan area will be joining in as well, each planning activities to celebrate and help the animals.

Events will include adoption fairs, spay/neuter awareness events, low cost vaccinations, highlighting shelter events, programs in libraries, pet food drives for low income citizens, events for the farm animals and sweet therapy dogs visiting hospitals, nursing homes and helping the military's wounded warriors.

Also to be included are a salute to our military K-9's and horses, police dogs, animal law events, art galas, musical concerts, special programs at sanctuaries, blessings for the animals, and full-filled festival days for families to come and enjoy food, music and the amazing animals!

Join us. We encourage animal lovers everywhere in the area to participate! See the "Become Involved" page on this website for lots of great ideas and suggestions on what you can do for this special week and everyday to help the animals.

Visit the calendar page and please note we will be adding events and activities as we receive them and together we will make the 1st Annual Washington, DC Week for the Animals a joyful celebration!
